Apply for a Home
NEED
You must be a resident of Carroll County for a minimum of one year.
You will be considered, for a Habitat for Humanity of Carroll County, inc. home or repairs to your home, if your present housing is not adequate or safe, and if you are unable to obtain such housing through other conventional means. Lack of adequate, safe housing may include problems with the present structure; water, electrical, heating or sewage systems; or failure to meet property maintenance standards.
ABILITY TO PAY/INCOME GUIDELINES
You will be required to openly and fully discuss your financial situation.
Your total family income must not exceed $41,050, which is 50% of the 2010 Carroll County median annual family income figure (income guidelines).
HABITAT HOME
You will be buying your home from Habitat for Humanity of Carroll County, Inc. and you must demonstrate your ability to pay the monthly mortgage payment. The payment will include mortgage, property taxes, and insurance. Carroll Habitat will assist you in developing a budget to determine your eligibility. You will be responsible for the maintenance of your new home.
REPAIR YOUR HOME
You will be required to pay, through a loan from Habitat for Humanity of Carroll County, Inc., for the supplies to repair your home. Carroll Habitat will provide the expertise, supervision, volunteer labor, and will order the supplies.
WILLINGNESS TO PARTNER
If selected for a Habitat for Humanity of Carroll County, Inc. home or repairs to your home, you become a “partner family.” A “partner family” means you must participate in volunteer work with Carroll Habitat, which is called sweat equity.
Sweat equity is your assistance in constructing or repairing your home and the homes of others. Your sweat equity must be completed before you become a homeowner or before the repairs are completed on your home. Examples of sweat equity activities are clearing lots, painting, helping with construction, providing food for volunteers, or working in the Carroll Habitat office.
FAMILY SUPPORT
After moving into your new home or after the repairs are completed on your home, Carroll Habitat’s Family Support Committee will maintain an on-going relationship with you and your family, which includes financial counseling and household maintenance education.

The selection of families, who will purchase a home or require repairs to a home by Habitat for Humanity of Carroll County, Inc., will be done by the Family Selection Committee using guidelines in a way that does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, color, age, handicap, religion, marital status, or because all or part of the applicant’s income is derived from public assistance programs.
